TOP 10 REASONS FAMILIES SHOULD VISIT BOCA GRANDE
1. The heart of Boca Grande is our community center that houses our Island School, reference room and library, theater, playgrounds (one of the little tykes, one for the bigger kids), basketball, sand volleyball and kickball field.
2. Bike/walking path the length of the island. Or rollerblade into town. Golf carts are a very popular mode of transportation here and a great way to see the island.
3. The historic village of Boca Grande with quaint cottages, lots of fun shops, restaurants and ice cream parlors. Bakery opens early for coffee and baked treats. There are two local grocery stores and our very own health clinic.
4. Historic Gasparilla Inn a must see during the holidays. Lots of fir trees and lights; very festive. A wonderful place to stay, the Inn has the only on island golf course.
5. Boca Grande is pet friendly with a dog park owned by the Gasparilla Inn, a dog show every other year and a pet shop serving gourmet pet treats
6. Island hopping to Cabbage Key, Palm Island and Useppa Island. Visit the state park on Cayo Costa.
7. Fishing!! Inshore, offshore, from the beach or during tarpon season. Fishing in Charlotte Harbor is spectacular and there are plenty of experienced fishing guides to show you the ropes.
8. You can fly into Fort Myers or Sarasota (a little over an hour drive from either) or Tampa (1 1/2 hours). You don't need a boat to get to our island and it's a beautiful drive over our swing bridge.
9. Organized tennis,(or casual tennis on Wheeler Road south of town) and world class golf just minutes from the island.
10. Gasparilla Island has great beaches; cool sand,small surf, and shallow blue green water. Bring the family!
